London - Southbank on the River Thames

Exploring the South Bank area of the river Thames.

I travelled to the area by underground, alighting at Waterloo Station. Especially in summer be sure to take some water with you to keep hydrated.

The Southbank stretches for approximately 2 miles in central London, opposite the City of Westminster. There is an abundance of entertainment in this area from theatres & galleries to museums & rides.

The London Eye:

An adult ticket costs £27 & the ride takes approximately 30 minutes. On a good day you can see across London & beyond.

.
Buckingham Palace as seen from the top of
the London Eye.

The Sealife London Aquarium:

Situated on the ground floor of County Hall.
Whilst I don't agree with the practice of keeping
creatures captive away from their natural habitat
this is a great opportunity for young & old to view
species of the oceans. Take a walk through the
The London Dungeon:

Recreates macabre historical events in a
humorous way using actors, special
effects & rides.
Adult Ticket £30
Ocean Tunnel where all manner of creatures pass
overhead from sharks to rays, turtles & many smaller
species of fish.

Adult Ticket £7.50

Theatres:

Street Entertainment:

As you wander along the Southbank you will come across an abundance of street entertainers, & rides for young & old.

Florence Nightingale:

In the grounds of St Thomas' hospital is the museum of Florence Nightingale, well worth a visit. The museum provides a fascinating insight into the life of Florence (the lady with the lamp), the founder of modern nursing.

Pop along to the Southbank Centre, where in the foyer until 19th August 2018, they have an exhibition on Nelson Mandela. An interesting insight into his life.

Restaurants:

There are plenty of places to eat & drink along the Southbank, my favourite is www.studio6restaurant.com where you can enjoy delicious food whilst people watching.

There are also plenty of places to purchase snacks, ice creams, drinks etc

There really is so much to see & do, so make sure you have your walking shoes on.

Thoroughly enjoyed my day wandering & exploring what the Southbank has to offer, more so as I was exceptionally lucky with the weather.
